Some people in the US have been dealing with fascist and white supremacist harassment for quite awhile and one may want to be cautious in minimizing it in discussion with them.

My focus group last night was lit, as the children say.

First up: I asked participants for 1 word to describe the news media. (“Emissaries of Satan” counts as 1 phrase.)

This is not good

@jasonintrator While there's no oxygen in Manaus, Brazilian government increased taxes for importing oxygen. But since January 1, taxes for importing some firearms have been reduced to zero. This is a project and it is called genocide!

The discussion of genocide and Bolsonaro in Brazil is much more open and normal than it is in the United States, where it has not generally part of the discussion of the Trump administration.

#Capitol #CapitolRiots

Germany’s leading scholar of Nazism. Wish Evans took store of this and the intervention of other “actual scholars of fascism.” And I wish more American observers understood what is happening right under their noses.

Thought experiment: six years ago, how would you have described a hypothetical administration that placed Sessions, Pompeo, Miller, Flynn, Mulvaney, and others of their ilk in positions of enormous power and influence?

Trump placed open white nationalists all throughout his admin from the beginning and we — mainstream media, polite society — normalized that and we should all be absolutely appalled. Trump was always a vessel for much more sinister groups tht we make-believed were a small fringe.

Ted Cruz and I are roughly the same age. He went to elite private high schools and Princeton. I went to New York public high schools and SUNY. I often wondered what the super elite were learning at those places, which seemed unimaginably exclusive to me back then.

The new Post poll has some awful findings among Republicans:

51% say GOP leaders didn't go far enough in nullifying election

56% say Trump bears zero blame for the insurrection

66% say he has acted responsibly

Behold the GOP's authoritarian core:

Americans are losing faith in democracy because they have been betrayed by elites. Nothing works - the infrastructure, the health care system, and education system. Whatever happens, the rich get richer. All of this is a cliché, but nevertheless true. Trumpism is what you get.
